Officially opened in 1991, the Manaslu Circuit Trek has become a popular trekking route. Named after Manaslu Peak (8163m), the eighth highest mountain in the world, it was first summited by a Japanese expedition team. The trek begins in Arughat or Gorkha and takes you through the exotic and isolated Manaslu Conservation Area.

After crossing the famous Larkya La Pass (5106m), the route connects with the well-known Annapurna Circuit at Dharapani. Since its rise in popularity in the 1990s, basic tea shops and tea houses were available, but now, the trek can be organized in a more luxurious way, with lodges featuring attached bathrooms and hot showers.

Please note that a special restricted area permit from the Department of Immigration is required for this trek. According to regulations, a minimum of two people must trek together to obtain the necessary permits, and trekkers should join a reliable trekking agency for the Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Manaslu trekking in Nepal is rated as moderate to challenging due to its geographical location. This trek begins in Sotikhola, a town in the Gorkha district, and concludes in Besisahar, in the Lamjung district, crossing the spectacular Larkya La Pass (5106m) along the way. Trekking at high altitudes, especially around 5000m and over high passes, is generally classified as strenuous, and the Manaslu trek is no exception.

Located within the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), the Manaslu trek offers various options, including the Tsum Valley Trek, and it can be combined with the Annapurna Circuit trek. The Larkya La Pass serves as a connection point, making it possible to enjoy one of the best trekking experiences in both the Manaslu and Annapurna regions.

As the popularity of Manaslu trekking continues to rise, numerous local lodges and tea houses have emerged in the area. Unlike 15-20 years ago when full-supported camping treks were necessary, we have been operating tea house treks in the Manaslu region for the past 8-10 years. While some lodges, particularly in Dharamshala, may be basic, we strive to accommodate you in the best available lodges with attached bathrooms during most nights.

NETTA organizes the best available deluxe tea house lodges treks in the Manaslu region. The trekking route here is not as busy as that of the Annapurna Circuit. After crossing Larkya La Pass (5106m), you can either continue on foot to Besisahar or take a local jeep drive.
